OK, I admit it. I’m trying to be clever with a turn of phrase. The phrase “Missio Dei” is Latin for “mission of God”. It was coined by theologian Karl Hartenstein in 1934 as he and Karl Barth articulated the idea that mission begins with God not man. The idea of missio Dei is one of the few concepts that has captured missiologists and theologians of all stripes, remaining a dominant insight for understanding mission today.
I call this blog “Missio Deive” to denote that this blog is about my particular perspective about the mission of God. The mission of God is what it is with and without my musings. Yet we all have a unique perspective or viewpoint about that mission. We will never understand it fully, but it is time well spent to understand it better.
